A Know-So Hope

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:3-5 NAS95). What a glorious thought. As believers there is an inheritance beyond what we can even imagine waiting for us who have hope. Not a-hope-so kind of hope, but a-know-so kind of hope. It is a-know-so kind of hope because it is protected by the power of God through faith. While there are times when sin and distress causes us to waver, the power of God always returns us to the cross. There are two reasons this happens. The first reason is the work of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that worked in our hearts to believe the Gospel, and it is the Holy Spirit th...

Soli Deo Gloria

Soli Deo Gloria: For the glory of God alone. We were created and exist to bring glory to God. The twenty four elders cry out, "Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created" (Revelation 4:11 NAS95). Are you or were you lost? It was for the glory of God. As it is written: For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11 NAS95). Are you saved? It is for the glory of God. In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to ...

Plan Wisely and Trust God

To trust God in all matters is a difficult thing to do. We live our lives, for the most part, without fear of great calamity. We make decisions as to what to buy and sell, where to go on vacation, and a myriad of other things often without much prayer. It is easy living in a prosperous society to become over confident and self reliant. Take for example the farmer who’s barns were full.  "The land of a rich man was very productive. "And he began reasoning to himself, saying, 'What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?' "Then he said, 'This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 'And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry."' "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?' "So ...

Take Care How You Hear

And He was saying to them, "A lamp is not brought to be put under a basket, is it, or under a bed? Is it not brought to be put on the lampstand? “For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light. "If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear." And He was saying to them, "Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides. "For whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him” (Mark 4:21-25 NAS95). At first blush, this passage says some things that are hard for the casual reader to pick up on. The first part is easy enough; you obviously don’t put a lamp under anything. You put a lamp on a stand or table so the light can illuminate the room. The next part is a little more obscure. That is nothing is hidden except to be revealed. You would think the reason you would hide so...
