Looking for that Blessed Hope

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds (Titus 2:11-14).

One characteristic of a good walk is hopefulness. Keeping the goal of seeing Jesus as your focus pushes out distractions. God’s grace saves us and instructs us to live sensibly. With Christ as our example, we learn to deny ungodliness and worldly desires because we hope to stand without shame at the judgement seat of Christ and hear the words, well done good and faithful servant . . . enter into the joy of your master (Matthew 25:23)

Paul wrote, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14). Also note what the writer of Hebrews wrote, Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:1-2) [emphasis added].

Keeping your eyes on the prize, keeping your eyes on Jesus, keeping your eyes on the blessed hope, this is the cure for worldly desires. See His majesty, His holiness, His love, His sacrifice and marvel. What a wonderful Savior we will see some day! Have faith, and keep looking for that blessed hope.
