Confess Current Sin

Confess Current Sin

If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us (1 John 1:8-10).

One mark of a believer is awareness of sin. The closer we get to Christ the more we see our sinfulness. Thankfully, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous (1 John 2:1).

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Wow, let us lock in on that for a moment.

If we confess our sins, is the qualifying phrase. This requires two things: recognition and a willingness. Without exposing your heart to the Word, sin may hide in your heart. However, if you will expose your heart to God’s Word you will be able to see your sin. For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).

So, the Word is God’s scalpel so to speak. Of course seeing is not the only thing needed. You must be willing to confess your sin. Confession has an element of repentance in it as it is an admission of wrong doing. Confession without repentance turns into license. This is Roman Catholicism. 'THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME (Matthew 15:8).

But what a blessing to those who are willing to confess their sin. Christ is faithful to forgive us. There will never be a day when true confession is met with disdain. Christ is faithful. He is also righteous, which ensures that our confessions are received by the Father. The sin debt has been paid! He will cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

Believer, keep a short sin account. As, there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do (Hebrews 4:13b). Amen.
