He Is the Image of the Invisible God

He Is the Image of the Invisible God

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything (Colossians 1:15-18).

Without God’s revelation we would be like the pagans ignorantly worshiping rocks and trees with no hope of eternal life. Give praise to God that He did not just create and let go like the Deists believe. Praise Him that God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world (Hebrews 1:1-2).

When you look at the created world, do you ever just fall back in awe? When you think of Christ’s incarnation does it make you marvel? Think about the fact that He created everything and holds it together. I am no scientist but I know enough to know the second law of thermodynamics or entropy says that things tend to disorder. Yet, Christ holds it all together.

While the heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament His handy work, Christ reveals the Father to us. He is the image of the invisible God. If you want to know the Father look to Jesus His Son, the Creator and Sustainer.

Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders which You have done, And Your thoughts toward us; There is none to compare with You. If I would declare and speak of them, they would be too numerous to count (Psalms 40:5).

Father as we face the difficulties of the day, remind us that you are on the throne and that your Word says, No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13).
