Make the Most of Your Time

I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me (2 Peter 1:13-14).

Paul knew that his time on this earth was limited. His desire to be busy about the work of ministry should also be our desire. None of us knows how long we have to serve God. So, let us be intentional in the way we live our lives.

Don't wait to share the Gospel with that person God has laid on your heart. Don't squelch the impulses of the Holy Spirit. You never know what difference a day could make.

I remember going to a man's house, and as I stood on his porch sharing the Gospel—which he rejected—feeling a great sense of loss. Disappointment for me, but sadness at his lost opportunity. I spoke with great boldness (in the Spirit) and I believe accuracy, yet he would have none of it.

Following up a week later, I discovered he had died. Oh how my heart ached for him. Of course God is sovereign and His providence is perfect and right, but I couldn't help but wish I had met him sooner. Perhaps someone else reaped what was sown; I hope so.

The point is, be busy. Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person (Colossians 4:5-6).
