The Need for Prayer

Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all (Eph 1:15-23 NKJV).

Let us be thankful for those whom Christ has saved. Hearing of other believers living for the glory of God should fill our hearts with joy. If this is the case for you, then pray for the body of Christ. Pray, also, for yourselves.

Paul says he does not cease to pray for the Ephesians after hearing of their faith. Prayer is a critical element of our sanctification.

Pray that God will give a spirit of wisdom and revelation that we would know what the hope of His calling is, what the riches of the glory of His inheritance are, and what great power works in us. That power is the power that raised Christ from the dead.

Oh, if we can catch a glimpse of Christ's great glory and majesty, we will fare much better in our fight against sin. Will you see Christ sitting at the right hand in glory? Then you must pray without ceasing for wisdom and understanding concerning the person and work of Christ. Meditate on our great God and king. Recognize the power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in you. Then you will be able to say with Paul, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Php 4:13 NKJV)—knowing that God has put all power and might and dominion under His feet.
