Blessings Abound
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love (Ephesians 1:3-4 NAS95).
When my flesh seems to be winning the battle for my heart, I can identify with Paul, who said, “The Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin” (Romans 7:14b NAS95). It is during these dark struggles that I find comfort in the passage above.
Have you realized, dear Christian, that you have spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ? You have not some spiritual blessings, but every spiritual blessing. These blessings are not predicated upon your performance. They are yours because of your position in Christ. You ask, " When did you get these blessings?” You were blessed before the foundation of the world.
Don’t think this gives you a license to sin. Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? (Romans 6:1b-2 NAS95). No, let us remember that we have been set free from the dominion of sin. Confess your sin and know that Christ is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
The next time you feel like you are fighting a losing battle, look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us.
