A Mikhtam of David. Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in You. I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord; I have no good besides You." As for the saints who are in the earth, They are the majestic ones in whom is all my delight. The sorrows of those who have bartered for another god will be multiplied; I shall not pour out their drink offerings of blood, Nor will I take their names upon my lips. The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You support my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me. I will bless the LORD who has counseled me; Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night. I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will dwell securely. For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay. You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever (Psalms 16:1-11 NAS95).
How poor soever my condition is in this world, let me have the love and favour of God, and be accepted of him; let me have a title by promise to life and happiness in the future state; and I have enough (Matthew Henry).
How blessed we are to have God as our Father! How precious the thought of heaven! How beautiful will be the sight of our Sin Bearer, Christ the Lord!
Even if we suffer greatly on this earth, we may rejoice knowing God will never leave us nor forsake us. Thankfully, the sufferings of this life are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us (Romans 8:18).
Therefore, let us have the mind of Christ reflected in Psalm 16 above. Oh let those who fear the LORD say, "His lovingkindness is everlasting” (Psalms 118:4 NAS95).
In whatever circumstance you find yourself today, look to your Savior for comfort and courage. Foster an intimate relationship with Him by hiding His Word in your heart. Then you will be able to say, Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me. I will bless the LORD who has counseled me; Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night. Amen.
