Leading God's people can be challenging, as they often express complaints when faced with difficulties. Leaders must maintain a loving attitude while addressing these objections. This matters because teachers face a stricter judgment (James 3:1).
Moses was tested when God’s people complained about a lack of water (Numbers 20:2-9). God told him to speak to the rock, and it would give out water (Numbers 20:8). He let his frustration get the better of him. He did more than speak.
“And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly before the rock. And he said to them, "Listen now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?" Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank” (Numbers 20:10-11).
God’s people can be difficult at times, but as a leader, it is important to maintain decorum among the people. You are to be an example. Not doing so may levy a heavy toll. This was the case for Moses.
“But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, 'Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them'” (Numbers 20:12).
“Now Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, and the Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. Then the LORD said to him, "This is the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your descendants'; I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there." So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD” (Deuteronomy 34:1-5).
What a life Moses had. Yet because he dishonored God before the people, he forfeited going into the promised land. He is in heaven, but his earthly journey to reach the land ended just short of completion.
Remember to maintain a good testimony. Honor God at all times.
