Renew Your Mind, Think About Your Inheritance (1 Pet 1:3-5; Rom 12:2)

 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1Pe 1:3-5).

The Bible tells us: “. . . do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect” (Rom 12:2).

It is important to renew your mind and adopt right thinking. Having a clear understanding of your position in Christ is foundational. Peter provides three aspects of our position in Christ. 

1. God saved us, not ourselves. He caused us to be born again according to His great mercy. Therefore, you are secure in Christ. “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 8:38-39).

2. He has implanted in us a living hope as opposed to a hope built on dead works. Christ's substitutionary death and resurrection secured life for us and has provided proof of life after death.

3. You have an imperishable inheritance, not like that which you might receive from an earthly estate, but a heavenly, everlasting one.

1. An undefiled inheritance: Perfect in every way, no sin, no pain, no loneliness, with Christ in all His glory. Think about that.

2. An enduring inheritance: One that never gets old or passes away. It’s easy to get bored with things in this life, but you will never be bored in heaven. Heaven will be never-ending bliss with our God.

3. A reserved inheritance. There will be no squabbling over who gets what. Your inheritance will not be challenged. It is reserved for you and kept by God's power through faith.

Reflect on these truths. Allow these facts to renew your mind. The world seeks to distract and draw you to earthly things. Instead, prove what the will of God is: that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Live it by faith.
