Aim To Please (2 Corinthians 5:6-10)

Aim To Please

Scripture

“So [we are] always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things [done] in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” (2Co 5:6-10 NKJV)

Devotion

The believer, having the guarantee of the Spirit, is always confident because he no longer fears death. However, there is a judgment to be faced, and it should be the aim of every believer to live circumspectly.

Hopefully, our desire to please Christ comes more from our love for Him and not our fear of Him. If His commandments are a burden to us, something is amiss. “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world——our faith.” (1Jo 5:3-4 NKJV)

Let us live each day desiring to be pleasing. Not from terror of judgment, but from a heart of gratitude. Think about a child that looks to his father for approval. The boy rejoices to hear his father’s praise. Seek to hear the words, “. . . Well [done], good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.” (Mt 25:23 NKJV)
