Take Care To Listen (Mark 4:21-25)

Scripture

And He was saying to them, "A lamp is not brought to be put under a basket, is it, or under a bed? Is it not brought to be put on the lampstand? "For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light. "If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear." And He was saying to them, "Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides. "For whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him." (Mark 4:21-25)

Devotional Thought

We are accountable for what we hear. You don’t put a lamp under a basket; you put it on a lampstand so it can illuminate the room. Likewise, when we hear the truth of God’s Word, we should seek to understand it and share its truths with others.

If we do that and measure it correctly, more will be given to us, benefiting ourselves and others. For whoever has, to him more will be given.

However, the opposite is also true. If we do not have the truth, what gleanings we did have will be taken away. Or, perhaps better, what gleanings we thought we had will be taken away. Judas walked with Christ like the other disciples, but he, not having ears to hear, lost what he had, for he did not receive it by faith.

Dearly beloved of God, let us be good workmen. “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
